Obituary for Noel Joseph Matherne Noel Matherne, Jr., 71, of Ayden, NC died unexpectedly on March 22, 2018. Having earned a degree in nursing at East Carolina University, he worked closely with Pitt County Group Homes for many years before retiring. Ha was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving as a 2ND Lt.

in the US Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal during that tour of duty. Noel was preceded in death by parents, Noel Matherne, Sr. and Edna Tucker Matherne.

He is survived by his sister Mary Nesbitt of Middle, NC, nieces Crystal McDuffie, Megan Nesbitt and a nephew Brandon Nesbitt. A Committal Service is scheduled for Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 164 Longs Plant Farm Road, Goldsboro, NC 27534, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in his honor to the Wounded Warriors Project would be appreciated.
