Nolan D. Pevehouse, 87, of Webbers Falls, Oklahoma passed away on Monday, May 20, 2019. Nolan was born on December 15, 1931 to Theodore “Theo” Henry Pevehouse and Edna Marie Pevehouse-Withrow (Jones) in Wainwright, Oklahoma. He attended and graduated from Oktaha High School and then joined the Navy.

He later attended Oklahoma State University and received his master’s degree in accounting to become a CPA. Nolan worked for the IRS for more than 20 years and then retired from the BIA. He was a rancher and an avid Horse racer, he also loved to go bird hunting.

His first horse was Turnpike Patty and every horse from her is also named Turnpike. He raised Painted Turnpike, who was the only triple crown winner. He won more races and money than any of the other horses.

He was a 3-time world champion, and Nolan was so proud of him. He is preceded in death by his father Theodore (Theo) Pevehouse; mother Edna Pevehouse-Withrow (Jones); and brother Carl Pevehouse, and granddaughter Misty Rogers Vaughn. He is survived by his wife Verna Pevehouse, Ronnie and Dianna Pevehouse of Webbers Falls, OK, Judy and Tracy Rogers of Aztec, NM, Michael Pevehouse or Porum, OK, Ronald and Janet Steveson of Bache, OK, 7 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren, brother Gordon and wife Jackie Pevehouse The family will receive friends from 5:30pm-7:30pm Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Cornerstone Funeral Home.

A celebration of Nolan’s life will be held 10:00am Friday, May 24, 2019 at Muskogee First Assembly of God Church with Chaplain Justin Haywood officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah, Oklahoma with Tracy Rogers, Bret Pevehouse, Billy Pevehouse, William Whiteagle, Rooster, Casey Pevehouse, Drew Pevehouse, and Jeremy Rogers as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Carl White, Rex Brooks, Charles Leggett, Jack McBroom, Jim Wheeler, Mel Bollenbach, George Miller, Glyde Miller, Carol McBroom, and Carole Stacy.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that all donations or memorials be made to the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF).
