Norma Jean “Jean” Swanson July 11, 1936 – November 04, 2018 Share this obituary Send Flowers Send Sympathy Gifts View/Sign Guest Book| Send Sympathy Card| Memorial Donation Norma Jean “Jean” Swanson, 82, of 3060 Rasselas Road, Wilcox, died Sunday morning, Nov. 4, 2018 at her residence following a brief illness. Jean was born on July 11, 1936 in Rasselas, daughter of John “Jack” and Carmella Allegretto Sample.

She married Donald “Red” Swanson on Sept. 18, 1954 in Holy Cross Church, Rasselas. He died June 23, 1988.

Norma resided in Rasselas-Wilcox all her life and graduated Wilcox High School in 1954. She had been a long time member of Holy Cross Church, Rasselas. She was a member of the Wilcox Senior Center.

She loved spending time with her family, quilting and backyard bird watching. She had worked at Stackpole Carbon Co. for several years and previously at Keystone Carbon Co. for 30+ years. Jean is survived by her children: Margaret “Peg,” Mrs. David Galsick of Rasselas; John “Jack” Swanson and his wife, Connie, of Rasselas; and Wayne Swanson and his wife, Janet, of Maiden, North Carolina; by eight grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by several brothers and sisters: Joanne, Mrs. David Andreas of Emporium; Joyce Smart of Johnsonburg; Julie, Mrs. Tim Valentine of St. Marys; and Joe Sample and his wife, Kathy, of Hickory, North Carolina. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and brothers: Jim, Jeff, Harry “Buck” and Joseph Sample; sisters: Janet Howard, June Sample, Jane Barber, Leone Sigworth, Betty Allegretto, Gertrude Northrup, Elmira “Pie” Smith and Mary Ann Stearns. Funeral Services for Jean Sample will private and at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be held at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Rasselas and will be private. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under direction of the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut Street Johnsonburg.
