Obituary for Norma Jean Caldwell Norma Jean Caldwell, 82, died Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Albuquerque Uptown Assisted Living in Albuquerque, NM after a brief illness. She was born June 24, 1936, in Dalhart, TX to Norman and Caroline Schmidt. She was baptized at the age of 12 in the Salem Mennonite Church, Copeland KS and again by full immersion at Pierceville Federated Church as an adult.

She married Elvin Caldwell on May 16, 1965 in Garden City. Norma graduated from Garden City High School in 1958. She graduated from Halstead Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse and later in 1987 from Garden City Community College with an Associates degree.

She worked for many years as a registered nurse, the Director of Nursing at Garden Valley Retirement Home and a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. She used her love of baking to make delicious breakfast breads and desserts for her family and church. She loved working outdoors, compiling family genealogy, and making things for her grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Joan Lasche of Albuquerque, M.M. and Janelle Maycumber, of Flagstaff, Ariz. ; a son, Troy Caldwell of Albuquerque; four sisters, Josephine Schultz of Montezuma, KS; Rose Wedel of Loveland, CO; Ruby Buller of Halstead, KS; Virginia Dirks of Durham, TN and two brothers, Earl Schmidt of El Campo, TX and Lloyd Schmidt of Ingalls, KS; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two brothers, Vernon Schmidt and Donald Schmidt.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Pierceville Federated Church. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.

Memorials may be given to Village Missions, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N. Seventh St. Garden City, KS 67846.
