Obituary for Obie Elliot Dykes Obie Elliot Dykes of Laurel, MS passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018 at the Landmark of Collins Nursing Home. He was 88 years old. Mr. Dykes was born on December 30, 1929.

He served in the United States Army and worked as a mechanic until he retired in 1992. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Graham Dykes; an infant son; daughter, Nancy Gaile Rousey; father, Homer Clifton Dykes; mother, Annie Mae Waltman Dykes; and two sisters, Joyce Dykes Reed and Emma Lee Black. He is survived by his children, Jeff and Dorothy Street of Laurel, Cliff and Sandy Dykes of Sweetwater, AL, Jan and Mike Sumrall of Laurel, Annette Dykes Smith of Florence, and Harold Dykes, Boerne, TX; grandchildren, Charlie Rousey, Jr. of New Kensington, PA, Christina Russell of Destin, FL, Cory Dykes of Sweetwater, AL, Michael Street of Laurel, Ashley Yarbrough of Brandon, Justin Sumrall of Madison, and Nicholas Sumrall of Laurel; and a host of great grandchildren.

Services for Mr. Dykes will be held at Memory Chapel on Thursday, October 4th with visitation beginning at 9 :30 a.m. and the service following at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery. The Reverend Charles Lenn at Tuscaloosa, Alabama will officiate. Grandson, Corey Dykes, will be in charge of music.
