Obituary for Ruth Blackwell Nichols Ruth “ToTo” Blackwell-Nichols passed away on November 18, 2018, at Comfort Care Nursing Center. She was born on June 8, 1923, to Henry Lee and Annie Blackwell. She had seven siblings; Marie, D.P., Clyde, Buck, Morris, Charles and Dovey.
On June 15, 1940, she married Luther Evon Nichols. She was just a pretty 17 year-old farm girl whom married a handsome farm boy down the road. They had three sons; Jerry, Wayne (Jan) and Mark (Myra).
She has nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Her special friends were her long time neighbor Marie Spradley, Dorman and Doris Lyon, Juanita Carr, Linda Miller, Patsy Parrish, and Carolyn Wing. Every other Sunday, Thanksgiving and Christmas, our large family would gather together and enjoy a delicious meal cooked by Toto.
No one could beat her fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, dressing and chocolate pudding. She liked keeping busy. She loved to sew, make everyone quilts, pot holders and aprons.
If you visited her at lunchtime, she would be sitting in her recliner watching Days of Our Lives, chewing Double-Bubble bubble gum. We would like to thank all of her caregivers at Comfort Care Nursing Center, whom helped take care of her during her last years of life. She lived a long, wonderful life of 95 years with so many special memories with her family and friends.
Now she is walking the streets of gold with no more pain or suffering and rejoicing with her parents, husband and other loved ones. Although she will be deeply missed here on earth, we have a great peace knowing where she has gone. “When I Must Leave You” When I must leave you for a little while, Please do not grieve and shed wild tears, And hug your sorrow to you through the years, But start out bravely with a gallant smile; And for my sake and in my name Live on and do all things the same, Feed not your loneliness on empty days, But fill each waking hour in useful ways, Reach out your hand in comfort and cheer And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near; And never never be afraid to die, For I am waiting for you in the sky!
