Obituary of Orville Outten Orville Jay Outten, 88, of Salisbury and Ocean City, died on Monday, December 10, 2018 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center following a short illness. Born on October 2, 1930 in Pocomoke City, MD, he was a son of the late Chester and Myrtle Brittingham Outten. Orville graduated from Pocomoke High School in 1947 and entered the furniture business.
First with his brothers as “Outten Bros. Furniture, Inc.” where he and his brother Edward owned and operated the Salisbury location until he ventured out on his own starting, Wicomico Furniture, Inc. Along life’s journey, he met and married the love of his life, Esther Faye Marshall in 1951. Together they raised their two children and were soon blessed with two grandchildren and eventually two great grandchildren.
Orville was raised on a family farm and in retirement he still enjoyed working the land with his tractor and still always talked of farming. When he met a new friend he soon knew their genealogy and they were no longer a stranger. He also had a special place in his heart for Schnauzers and had multiple dogs named “Sassy” in his life.
He was appointed as a director of the former Truckers and Savings Bank in downtown Salisbury, a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club, Crisfield Elks Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles Club, Redmens Lodge and a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose. Orville is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Esther Faye Outten; one son, Wallace Jay Outten and his life partner, Jose U Perez of Ocean City and New Port Richey, FL; one daughter, Debbie Faye Tawes and her husband Jay of Crisfield, MD;; two grandchildren, Jayna Tawes Grant and her husband Jacob of Salisbury, MD and Jayson P. Tawes of Salisbury, MD; two great grandchildren, Isabella J. Grant and Nathan J. Grant; one brother, Ronald Outten and his wife Betty of Selbyville, DE; his current companion “Sassy” and extended family members including sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Claude, Edward, Norris, Parcie and Winston Outten and one sister, Essie Mae Outten Bell.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury, Salisbury where family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service. Rev. Jay Hurley will officiate.
Interment will follow in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury, MD. . In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 635 E. Church Street, Salisbury, MD 21801 or your local humane society.
