PATRICIA L. SAKKINEN BORN IN DETROIT, MI MAY 19, 1938 AND PASSED AWAY IN ROYAL OAK, MI MAY 29, 2019. Daughter of Ray and Kay (Hegner) Sakkinen graduated from Royal Oak High School and then attended Highland School of Nursing and graduated with her RN in September, 1959. Pat first worked at Crittendon Hospital and then went to South Macomb Hospital in Warren, MI until her retirement.

She was a dedicated head nurse in her chosen vocation and will be remembered by many families she attended and was an active member of the Nurses Alumni . Pat was married to Theodore Gillespie in 1964 who predeceased her. They have one daughter, Melinda Poszwa from Waterford, MI who survives her mother.

Pat was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Royal Oak willing to help in the church office when needed and was once honored as Lutheran Woman of the Year. Patricia is survived by three brothers Robert (Connie), Calumet, MI, Richard, Calumet, MI and Michael (Diane), Cookeville, TN, two stepchildren Theodore and Melissa, many step grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, and a very special cousin Susan Wisniewski, Clinton Twsp. , MI Family and friends may call on Pat’s family at the Sullivan and Son Funeral Home, 705 W. Eleven Mile Road, in Royal Oak on Sunday, June 2 from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Royal Oak, on Monday, June 3 at 11:00 a.m. (in state 10:00) with Pastor Schmidt officiating.

Burial will take place at St. John’s Memorial Gardens, Fraser, MI. Memorials may been given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Humane Society, or the charity of your choice. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Patricia L. Gillespie please visit our Sympathy Store.
