Paul J. Flaherty, 65, passed away at home on Jan. 31, 2019 surrounded by his loving family after a three month battle with cancer. Born in Norwood, MA to the late Joseph P. and Ann M. (Nancy) Flaherty, Paul graduated Norwood High School Class of 1971 and received his B.S. from Bentley College in 1975.

He was retired from a lifetime career in sales. Paul was an active member of St. Thomas Parish and was the Event Chair of the West Springfield Library Capital Campaign Steering Committee. Some of Paul’s greatest joys were attending and coaching his children’s sports, especially hockey.

He was instrumental in establishing the first youth lacrosse program in West Springfield. Paul was a lifelong Boston sports fan. Family and friends were two of the most important things in Paul’s life.

He will be deeply missed by all for his love, loyalty and sense of humor. Paul leaves his devoted wife of 39 years Mary Pat (Benshetler), his treasured children Bridget K. DeRose and her husband Robert of Blackstone, Brian P. Flaherty and his wife Kristen of W. Spfld and Kevin M. Flaherty of Danville, Kentucky. , loving “Pa” to Hudson Claire, and his cherished sister Gail M. Flaherty of Quincy.

Paul was predeceased by his sister Jo-Ann P. Flaherty and Gail’s partner William A. Barrett. Funeral Services will be held MON 9:30 AM at TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield St., W. Spfld, followed by a 11 AM Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Thomas Church, Pine St., W. Spfld. Burial will be held TUES in Highland Cemetery, Winter St., Norwood, MA at 11:30 AM.

Calling Hours will be held SUN from 1 to 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
