Eleanor Anna Rose (Kurzawa) Baceski, 83, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2019, following a brief illness. Born and raised in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield, she was the beloved daughter and only child of Joseph S. and Rose (Liguz) Kurzawa. Eleanor was a 1953 graduate of the High School of Commerce and went on to business school.

She worked for the Springfield Public Schools where she remained her entire career. After forty years of service with the city, Eleanor retired in 1993 as the school secretary at the Frank H. Freedman School. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, best friend and love of her life, Edward Baceski in October, 2008.

The met working for Springfield and went on to share over 47 wonderful years of marriage, becoming residents of Westfield in 1970. They travelled the world and spent many summers enjoying boating, entertaining, and relaxing at their camp in Otis. Eleanor loved caring for her flower beds, bird watching, reading, traveling, and was an avid fan of the Red Sox and Patriots.

She was a woman of grace, elegance and generosity. She leaves behind her aunt and uncle, Stefania and Anthony Smigelski, cousin and Godchild, Patricia Sniegowski and her husband William, brother in law, Frederick Baceski and his wife Patricia, sister in law, Helen Brinkman and her husband Charles, several nieces and nephews, her lifelong friends, Jenette McDonagh and Gloria Magnacca, as well as many other cousins and close friends. Funeral services will be held Friday March 15, at 11AM from the Immaculate Conception Church in Indian Orchard with burial to follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 4-6PM at the Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home 1043 Westfield St. West Springfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
