Obituary for Pauline May Garner Pauline May Garner was born January 6, 1919 to Mason and Gertude (Geesy) Glatfelter of Yorkana, Pa. She was married to John C. Garner of Hellam for 55 years. She departed this earth on December 19, 2018 and was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three brothers, Earl, Harry, and Howard.
She is survived by a son, John Garner, Jr. and wife, Caroline Harris of Tacoma, WA and daughter, Jane Dellinger and husband, Don of York. Pauline has five grandchildren: Anna Garner and husband, Danny ton; Christopher Garner; Elizabeth Dellinger; Susan Raab and husband, Michael Burk; and Donald “DB” Dellinger, III and wife, Ann Dellinger. Her family extends to eight great granddaughters and one great grandson ranging in the age from 1 to 16 years old.
Pauline traces her lineage to Casper Glattfelder who arrived with his family in Philadelphia in August of 1743. She visited the homeland in Glattfelden, Switzerland along with a group from York. She remarked, as did Casper earlier, that the Swiss countryside reminded her of York County.
This past summer at the meeting of the Casper Glattfelder Association of America she was recognized as the oldest in attendance. She was the youngest child in a family with three older brothers. She loved working outdoors on the farm with her father and brothers.
Thus her abiding love for growing flowers and vegetables which she froze, canned, and preserved to feed her family. She had a sense of pride in the way her cold cellar looked with the Mason jars filled with the fruits of her labor. Pauline was a resident at the Brunswick for six years where she made many new friends.
She was a lifelong member of Christ United Methodist Church of Yorkana. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 28, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market Street, York with her former pastor, the Rev. Forrest S. Bish, officiate.
A viewing will be held Friday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. A private burial will be held in Mount Rose Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of The Brunswick for their kindness and also thank the loving staff of York Hospital, Colonial Manor Nursing Home and SpiriTrust Hospice Care along with her pastors and friends at Christ United Methodist of Yorkanna.
