A funeral service for Peggy Jo Hammons Newland, age 72, of Jacksonville, is scheduled at 10 o’clock in the morning, Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville. Steven Roper will officiate. She will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park in Jacksonville.

She is survived by brother, Jerry Hammons and wife Margaret; sister, Betty Beard; daughters, Tammy Jo Blackwell, Cindy Newland and husband Billy Cooper, Missy Hendrick and husband Brian; son, John David Newland and long-time companion Wes Roper. She is also survived by her grandchildren Dannielle Newland, Cheyenne Newland, Madison Newland-Cooper, Cayley and Colton Hendrick, and great-grandchildren Isabelle Green and Carson Moody. Peggy never met a stranger that she couldn’t make a friend.

She would give you the shirt off her back and you always knew what she thought about you. She loved her job of 34 years at Federal Heath Sign, formerly Zimmerman Sign Company, and late-night trips to Dairy Queen for something sweet or to Whataburger for a BOB. Pallbearers include Doug Edwards, Brian Hendrick, Shane Hardy, Carl Bradshaw, Neal Sanford and Jimmy Murray.

Honorary pallbearers include: Steve Hammons, Tim Rose and Shawn Hines. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 and friends are cordially invited to visit with Peggy’s family from 5 to 7 o’clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
