A funeral service for John E. Wilson, age 88, of Jacksonville, is scheduled at 10 o’clock in the morning Monday, July 9, 2018 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville. Bro. Jerry Hawbaker will officiate.

He will be laid to rest at Union Grove Cemetery in Troup. He passed away Thursday, July 5, 2018 in Tyler. John was born December 30, 1929 in Jacksonville, Texas to the late Robert and Bessie Wilson.

He was a deacon at First Baptist Church of Mixon. John enjoyed wood working,… Read More » gardening and Bluegrass Gospel Music. He never met a stranger and loved to tell jokes.

His favorite place to eat was Whataburger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Wilson; grandson, Robert Wilson; great-grandson, Gavin Ryder Green; brother, Ernest Lee Wilson and a sister, Mary Lou Carpenter. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, John Allen Wilson and wife Carolyn of Jacksonville, Chris Wilson and wife Anita of Rusk; daughter, Delores Odom and husband Ronnie of Jacksonville.

He is also survived by sister, Mattie White and sister-in-law, Martis Wilson, both of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Melissa Posey, Eric Wayne Odom, Twila Dawn Green and Nicholas Wilson; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin on Sunday, July 8, 2018 and friends are cordially invited to visit with John’s family from 4 to 6 o’clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be to any Lottie Moon International Charities, American Cancer Society www.
