Peter Van Vleet, 76, passed away peacefully at his home on January 14 after a brief battle with cancer. Peter is survived by his loving wife, Doris Van Vleet; his sisters, Lynn Morrison and Lisa Kelley; his children, David Van Vleet (Suyi), Katy McLaughlin (Edward) and Andy Van Vleet; stepdaughters, Michelle Amador (Jorge) and Simone Alley (David); eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Peter, originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was predeceased by his wife, Ann, after a long and happy marriage, and brother, John Van Vleet.

A graduate of Virginia Tech, he spent his career in the U.S. Navy rising to the rank Master Chief Petty Officer and a second career in Civil Service, working for the Navy. He relocated to the Waynesboro area eight years ago when he remarried. A memorial service will be held 11 am, Saturday, February 9th at Main Street United Methodist Church.

Interment will follow in Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Main Street United Methodist Church, 601 W Main St., Waynesboro, VA 22980 or the Judeo-Christian Outreach Center, 1053 Virginia Beach Blvd. , Virginia Beach, VA 23451 Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, Fishersville is handling the arrangements.
