OBITUARY Philip Andrew Watkins December 25, 1940 – January 26, 2019 Play Tribute Movie Philip Andrew Watkins, age 78, passed away on Saturday, January 26th at Brighton Gardens of Raleigh. His family was by his side at the end. Phil was born on December 25, 1940 to Alfred and Ina Watkins.

He graduated from Schwenksville High School in 1958. He went on to Bob Jones University and graduated with a B.S. in 1962. He started a career in radio and journalism, which brought him to Durham, North Carolina.

He then moved on to IBM, where he worked for 10 years. He met Teresa McCaffrey in Durham, and they were married in December of 1967. Phil decided to return to school, and he completed his Masters and Ph.D. in Education from NC State University in 1988.

He worked in the public school system as a technical education counselor and a guidance counselor at the high school level for many years until his retirement from East Wake High School. Phil is survived by his wife of 51 years, Teresa, his daughter Jennifer Card and son-in-law David Card, his sister Mary Watkins, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Alfred and David Watkins.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in the name of Philip Watkins The service honoring the life of Phil will be Saturday, February 2 at 11:00am at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street Raleigh 27605. Visitation with the family will begin at 9:30am.
