Gertrude Lendora Jackson Carter, 70, of Trent Court, transitioned from this earthy life to life eternal on Friday, February 22, 2019. She was born on July 15, 1948 to the late Willie and Louise Jackson in Forsyth County. Gertrude was educated and graduated from Winston-Salem Bible College, Institute of Biblical Studies (Lynchburg VA), Winston-Salem State University and Forsyth Technical Community College.
Gertrude was a woman of the Gospel, working and achieving diligently with Missionary and Evangelism (Zimbabwe), Northwest Child Development Council, Kelly Assisted Living Services, Destiny Changer (Tomoka Christian Church), Family Services Head Start, Patriot of the Year (2010), Aaron’s Army (T.D. Jakes Ministry), Ministries at Belah Baptist Church, Mecklenburg County Mental Health Area, The National Library of Poetry (Published Author), and Vice President of Happy Hill Senior Citizens Organization. She was preceded in death by her husband, Smith Clay Carter, Sr., and two sons, Michael Clay Carter and Smith Clay Carter, Jr. A loving mother, sister, auntie and friend, she leaves to cherish her memory four children: Kim Carter, Kenneth Carter, Steven Carter and Matthew (Kena) Carter; fifteen grandchildren: Keith Carter, Kedrick (Lanita) Martin, Chrissean and Jordan Jones, Kristopher and Shareka Pearson, Blake, Caleb, Steven and Jacob Carter, Justin, Christian and Kayla Carter, Kara Malone McKenzie and McKhai Harvin; two great grandchildren, Isabella and Tavian Wolfe; sisters, Helen Benbow, Wilhelmenia Pledger (Willie); in-laws: Linda Ann Anderson, Shelia Stokes (Terrence) Langford, Pamela Stokes Taylor, Deborah Stokes, Millicent Harris, Joan Carter, Jasmine (Ron) Reid, Jacqueline Carter, Carlene Johnson, Pamela Carter, Willette Carter, Lenior Carter; god son, Sterling W. Jones and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends. Celebratory Services honoring her life and legacy will be conducted 12:45 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019 from the Greater Church, 5095 Lansing Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27105 with family visitation at 12 noon.
Her precious frame shall be coached to the serenity of Parklawn Memorial Gardens for earthly rest. Her remains will lie in repose Friday, March 1, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Service, Winston-Salem Chapel.
