Curtis R. Squire was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina on July 3, 1960 to Catherine Squire and Robert Burts, who preceded him in death. He departed this life on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. God in his divine wisdom called him to eternal rest.

“Curt” or “Drac” as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, graduated from the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools in 1978. During his working years, Curtis was employed by The Hyatt House (Embassy Suites) and United Textile Sales. Curtis was a famous fisherman.

He really loved people, life, and had a talent of smiling his way into everyone’s heart. He was also a real sportsman. Curtis loved to play football, basketball, baseball, cards and some would say he was quite a “fighter” in his younger years.

Some of his favorite things were eating soul food, listening to his boom box, playing old school music, singing gospel music, and wearing cool hats. One of his great joys was becoming a member of Christ Rescue Temple Apostolic Church where you could sometimes hear him leading a song or two. Those left to cherish and celebrate the life and memory of Curtis Squire are his brothers and sisters: Willie Squire (Denese), Darryl Squire (Denise), Richard Green (Wendy), Redd Burts, Antoine Sykes, Andrea Neal (Erwin), Pamela Witherspoon (Tony), Angela Cooper, Robin Burts, Dawn O’Donnell (John), and Traci Kids.

Curtis loved his five children: Fannialle “Lit’Bit” Dieu, Dannialle “Dee” Dieu, Rayvon Squire, Sr all of Winston-Salem, NC, Curtis Squire and Mario Squire both of Gastonia, NC. Fourteen grandchildren, an uncle, James Burts; an aunt, Annie Mae Squire; a stepmother, Sylvia Hoskins; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives and friends. A Service of Remembrance will be conducted 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019 from the Christ Temple Apostolic Church, 1500 N. Dunleith Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27105 with Bishop Willie Davis, Jr., officiating.
