Phil passed away Monday, June 25, 2018 in his home while being cared for by his family and Wellspan Hospice. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ilse, a son, David and wife Rebecca (Kleinfelter) of Palmyra and a daughter Lisa Landsberg and husband Rodney of Atlanta, granddaughters Alexis and Alexandra Heine and Jessica and Megan Landsberg. Also surviving is a sister, Sharon Breen of Lansdale.

He was predeceased by his parents Howard and Helen (Smaglinski). Phil graduated from Holy Name High School in Wyomissing and earned an associate degree from Temple University in electronics. He joined the 193rd Special Operations Wing in 1969 and worked 40 years until his retirement in 2009.

His passions included long talks with his daughter (who spent many long hours helping with his care and sitting with Ilse during his surgeries), waterfowl hunting with his son and dog, square and round dancing and riding his bicycle (5,500 miles in 2016). He needed to keep an eye on the town and what was being built in Hershey. He was well known for his enjoyment of his favorite dessert of the day, could be Hershey Kisses, Krimpets, M&M’s (always counted out), chocolate chip cookies, or Kandy Kakes.

Phil travelled the world with his job, but his heart was always at home. Today the world lost one of the purest spirits and heaven gained an angel. His family will have to pick up the pieces and the town will wonder what happened to that guy on the bike.

In the words of Ronald Reagan, he “slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God”. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to Ducks Unlimited, Memorial Contribution, One Waterfowl Way, Memphis TN 38120 or online at www. ducks.org.

Also to Manada Conservancy, PO Box 25, Hummelstown, PA 17036-0025. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM Friday, June 29, 2018 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 245 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA with a celebration of life following. Interment, with military honors, will be held 2:30 PM Friday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
