Rachel Elizabeth (Taggart) DeLuca, 82, of Steubenville, OH, died unexpectedly at home on Monday, November 5, 2018. She was born May 20, 1936, in Toronto, OH to the late Delmar Daniel Taggart and the late Della (Smith) Taggart. Rachel was the beloved wife of 57 years to Patsy DeLuca, also of Steubenville, OH.
Rachel’s greatest joy was time with her family. She was the very proud mother of four, grandmother of nine, and great- grandmother of three. She is survived by her husband Patsy; her children, Rick (Luisa) DeLuca, Ron (Aimee) DeLuca, Dan (Renee) DeLuca, and Karen (Michael) Crawford; her grandchildren, Patrick (Cassandra) DeLuca, Erika (Nick) Coppola, Raylene DeLuca, Daniel DeLuca, Anthony DeLuca, Julia DeLuca, Kelsey Crawford, Sydney Crawford, and Haley Crawford; and her great-grandchildren, Hartley DeLuca, Hensley DeLuca, and Sophia Coppola.
Rachel graduated with the Class of 1954 from Steubenville Catholic Central High School where she met Patsy. She played clarinet in the band in high school and never lost her love for Elvis. She was Thrilled to have gotten to visit Graceland with her kids just a few years ago.
Rachel was active in the church and served as administrative assistant for the St. Pius X Women’s Organization for approximately ten years. The organization was founded with the purpose of providing a welcoming and supportive environment where women can gather socially, spiritually and as an assisting re to the parish and neighboring communities. Recently, she also enjoyed socializing with her friends at Prime Time community activities and Sons of Italy events.
Rachel adored her family. She loved to watch her children and grandchildren at their sporting events and often could be seen enjoying football games at Ohio University where her daughter Karen was a cheerleader and two of her sons own their businesses. The family will receive friends this Thursday, November 8, 2018, from 4-7 p.m. at Mosti Funeral Home, 4435 Sunset Boulevard, Steubenville, OH.
A memorial service will be held this Friday, November 9, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 852 Main St., Wintersville, OH. An additional visitation hour will begin preceding the service at 9 a.m. Friends and family are also invited to share in lunch at the church following the burial ceremony. Rachel remained a strong supporter of Catholic Central High School throughout her life.
