Raymond Ernest Hammeken Ray, 75, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the home sister & brother -in-law, Norma and Jim Runyon of Concord, NC. Born January 8, 1943 in Tampa, Florida, to the late Fred E. and Janie Mae Hammeken, he was also preceded in death by his wife Gini, his son Eric and brother Jimmy. A large family of sisters and brothers that he lovingly inherited are Sandra and husband Paul, Lesa and husband Rick, Kathy and husband Peter, Tom and wife Patsy, Bill and wife Joan, Joe and wife Marilyn, Steve and wife Gheisa, Tim and wife Melissa, Shane and wife Vicky, and Karl married to Ruby, Gini’s sister that proceeded Gini in death.

Ray proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Chikaskia during war time. He was an avid golfer, making his first hole-in-one in 2016. Wood working, a favorite hobby, produced many teddy bear chairs, rocking horses for the children as well as beautiful furniture pieces for Gini that kept him on a “honey do” list always believing he could build anything.

CiCi was the newest doggie addition to his life. Both he and Gini loved animals and had a menagerie of ponds of Coy, exotic birds, and doggies of every breed, through their lives. This along with growing orchids, a try at “bee keeping” and boat building were a few of their interest.

They both were project people. A memorial service to celebrate Ray’s life was held at Purpose Life Church on April 21st officiated by Pastor Bob Lyons and attended by his sincere and wonderful friends that visited him often by his bedside. So many thanks to Life Path Hospice in Tampa and Carolinas Palliative Care and Hospice in Concord for their attentive & loving care A Military Funeral at Salisbury National Cemetery for Friends and Family will be held at a Later date.
