Obituary for Ret. Lt. Chounce Edward “Ed” Russell Sr. Ret.

Lt. Chounce Edward “Ed” Russell, Sr., 74, passed away Friday, September 7, 2018, in Kannapolis. A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Thursday, September 13, 2018 at The Brook Church.

Rev. Jon Harless, Rev. Jim Grigg and Pastor Mike Roper will officiate.

Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. Members of the Cabarrus County Sheriffs Office will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Law Enforcement Honors will be conducted by the Cabarrus County Sheriffs Office.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:45 pm at the church prior to the service. Ret. Lt.

Russell was born October 14, 1943 in Cabarrus County. He was a son of the late Chounce Woodrow Russell and Fannie Marie Hill Russell. He was an active member of The Brook Church in China Grove.

Ed was a Lieutenant for the Cabarrus County Sheriffs Office for 25 years until his retirement. He was a Godly man. He served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.

Ed was also active in other phases of his church. He was a former member of the Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge in Kannapolis. Ed had many hobbies that he enjoyed.

He was a master mechanic, photographer, computer technician and enjoyed woodworking and was a pilot. He and Gladys enjoyed many travels in their motor home. Mr. Russell is survived by wife, Gladys Christy Russell; two sons, C.E. “Rusty” Russell, Jr. and wife Leigh of Colorado Springs, CO and Brent Russell and wife Krissie of Kannapolis; daughter, Christina Dillon and husband Bruce of Kannapolis; two granddaughters, Riley Taloumis and husband Jimmy and Caroline Russell; and two grandsons, Ryan Russell and Cameron Russell; and other numerous family members.
