Retta B. (Peters) Rettburg, 95, Altoona, passed away Wednesday at Epworth Manor, Tyrone. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Harry and Agnes (Newton) Peters. She was first married to James W. Shannon Sr.; then she married Jack Rettburg, both of whom preceded her in death.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Redslob of Mechanicsburg; a son, James W. Shannon Jr. and wife, Judy, of Altoona; three stepchildren: Kenneth (Terry) Rettburg, Jackie (Mary) Rettburg and Doris (Gary) Auman; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters: Doris Lofland and Mildred Pheasant; and a brother, Russell Peters. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Ethyl McEliece and Jayne Jodon; and a stepson, David Rettburg. Retta was an Altoona High School graduate, class of 1941.

She worked for Butterick Co. Inc. and then retired from Warnaco. She was past president of the Lakemont Lions Club, where she was a Lion of the Year and received the Melvin Jones Fellow Humanitarian Award and served as Chaplain. She was a board member of the Altoona Food Bank and a volunteer for meals on wheels.

She was a former member of Simpson Temple Lutheran Church, Altoona, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was a member of the Llyswen United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2018, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg.

At the convenience of the family, inurnment will be at Blair Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the Altoona Food Bank, the Lakemont Lion’s Club, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh or the Llyswen United Methodist Church.
