Obituary for Richard D’Eredita, CSM (Retired) Richard A. D’Eredita, CSM(Ret), 80, passed on February 15, 2018 from liver cancer with his family by his side. Richard was born November 20, 1937 in Syracuse, NY to Anthony D’Eredita and Dorothy Sembrat. He graduated from North Side High School in 1956 and joined the Marines.

After the Marines he worked at Bristol Laboratories for many years. He joined the Army National Guard and rose up the ranks to Command Sergeant Major earning the Legion of Merit and Meritorious Service Medal along with multiple Army Achievement Medals and Army Commendation Medals. He was the OIC/NCOIC of the Counter Drug Task/Narco-Terrorism Task Force at Fort Drum, NY.

He was awarded a Plaque of Achievement from the Governor for the eradication of over 100,000 marijuana plants in New York State in one year. After retirement Richard & Pat relocated to Maine where they ran the gift shop, The Happy Cricket. He was predeceased by his parents; aunts, uncles, cousins, his infant son, Richard and stepson, Shawn.

He leaves his loving wife, Pat (Trish); children in Syracuse; stepchildren, John(Nancy)Betts; Kelly(Fred) Ortega and Kim Betts (Steve); grandchildren, Alana Betts (Justin), Amanda (Jon) Slack, Ashley Betts, Abby Betts; and great grandchildren, nieces and their families. He also leaves his brother, Cosmo(Gertrude) D’Eredita; sisters, Theresa(Paul) Elmstrom, Mary(Brian) Sallinsky, Cathy Mattison, David Mattison and Robert Mattison. There are also many special friends he loved that will miss him as well as his aunts and cousins in Syracuse, NY and his dog and seven cats.

Friends may visit from 9:30 to 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 27 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells. A funeral mass will follow at 11 am at Holy Spirit Parish – St. Mary’s Church, 236 Eldridge Road, Wells, ME. Interment will be held in the spring at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Stanley Road in Springvale, ME with military honors.
