Richard A. Hackenberg, 72, of New Berlin, formerly of Mifflinburg, entered into rest at 12:00 p.m., Monday, June 11, 2018, at his home. He was born February 8, 1946, in Lewisburg, a son of the late William E. and Dorothy A. (Zimmerman) Hackenberg. On September 23, 1998, he married the former Melanie A. Ettinger, who survives.

Richard served in the Army from November 16, 1965 until his honorable discharge October 27, 1967. He was employed as a truck driver at Eastern Industries, Winfield, for 30 years. Richard was a member of the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410, Mifflinburg Moose, and the Union County Sportsmen’s Club, Weikert.

He enjoyed golfing, and spending time with his grandchildren. Richard was an avid Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies, and Penn State football fan. Surviving in addition to his wife of 19 years, are one son Deron E. Hackenberg of Milton and his companion Lindsay Chasanov; two daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Ruel Simon of Winfield, and Autumn and Jesse Lermon of Rincon, Georgia; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Donna Hackenberg of Mifflinburg, and Thomas and Bonnie Hackenberg of New Berlin; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Dottie and Bob Walter of Mifflinburg, Jean and Kenneth Wagner of Mifflinburg, and Gladys Walter of Millheim; one sister-in-law, Judy Hackenberg of Northumberland; and eight grandchildren, Jason Hackenberg, Chase Hackenberg, Brady Hummel, Michael Simon, Alexandria Simon, Sierra Simon, Paiton Whitehurst, and Adeline Lermon.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Gary E. Hackenberg, William E. Hackenberg, and Robert Hackenberg in infancy; and one sister, Joan Hartzell. Family and friends are welcome to a time of visitation from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd. , Mifflinburg, where military honors will be conducted at 8:30, by the Mifflinburg American Legion and local veterans.
