Obituary for Richard B. Chevalier Hampton – Richard B. “Dick” Chevalier, 90, of Hampton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at the Exeter Hospital after an extended illness. His devoted and loving family was at his bedside. Dick was born in Boston, MA on November 22, 1927, a son of the late Raymond and Gladys (Hobbs) Chevalier.

Raised in North Hampton, Dick attended grammar school in North Hampton and graduated from Hampton Academy in 1945. He enlisted in the United States Navy after graduation and served his country honorably in the Pacific and European Theatres during WWII. Upon discharge from the Navy, Dick returned home and managed several local grocery stores.

He married the love of his life, June (Elliot) Chevalier in 1951 and they settled in Hampton to raise their family. A skilled baker, Dick and June opened the Sugar n’ Spice Bakery in Hampton which they operated together for over 13 years. After selling the bakery, Dick went to work as a baker for Hannaford’s until his retirement in 1990.

He loved all sports and had followed the Red Sox his entire life. Very active in his community, Dick was a 60 year member of the Hampton United Methodist Church, a 60 year member and Past Worshipful Master of the St. James Lodge #102 F. & A.M. of Hampton, the Ineffable Lodge of Perfection of Portsmouth, the Rose Croix of Portsmouth and Dover and the NH Consistory – Valley of Nashua. He was also a 60 year member and Past Master of the Oceanside Grange, a member and Past Master of the Wm.

Whipple Military Lodge, American Legion Post #35 of Hampton, Order of the Eastern Star of Hampton, Hampton Historical Society and the National Association of the Leavitt Families. Dick leaves June, his beloved wife of over 67 years, his daughters Lucinda Arlington and her husband Charles of Hampton and Laci Ferraro and her husband, Thomas of Billerica, MA, his son, Lance Chevalier and his wife Karen of Herndon, VA, his brother Kendall Chevalier and his wife Jean of North Hampton, his 9 grandchildren, Chad and Tyler Arlington, Michael, Brian, Andrew, Joseph, Daniel and Matthew Chevalier and TJ Ferraro. He also leaves his 12 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

He was predeceased by his siblings, David, Earl and Robert Chevalier and Nancy Hughes. There will be no calling hours. A Masonic Service will be held at 11 AM on Sunday, July 15, 2018 immediately followed by a Memorial Service at the Hampton United Methodist Church, 525 Lafayette Rd.
