Richard H. Snyder of Allegheny Township, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at UPMC Hamot Hospital, Erie, Pa. after a brief illness. He was born in Vandergrift, Pa.

on December 21, 1935, a son of the late Robert H. and Hazel L. Snyder. Richard was a graduate of Vandergrift High School and Case Western School of Radiologic Technology. He was a longtime employee of Oakland Orthopedic Associates, the now Greater Pittsburgh Orthopedic Associates until the time of his death.

It is here where he met his loving wife, Katherine L. (Lake) Snyder, whom he married on April 11, 1958. He is preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, James and Christina (McCall) Lake of Saltsburg, Pa. He was a long-time member of Cross Roads Community Presbyterian Church in Leechburg, Pa.

where he served in many capacities including, House Committee, Deacons, Session and Choir. In his younger days, Richard traveled and played in many competitive Drum and Bugle Corps, including, The Pittsburgh Rockets and Erie Thunderbirds. He frequently worked in his parent’s store, Bob’s Pets in Leechburg.

Richard was very active in Boys Scouts and served as Scout Master of Troop 551, Hyde Park, Pa. He organized many camping trips for the troop to Halliburton Scout Reserve in Canada and Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. He was honored by the Boy Scouts with The Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service and was very proud of the accomplishments of all of the scouts, especially, his son and three grandsons that achieved Eagle Scout rank.

Richard loved the outdoors and spent much time in his garden tending his flowers and vegetables, hunting, fishing and golfing. He enjoyed cooking large dinners for his church and Boy Scouts. He will lovingly be remembered for his willingness to help people, his commitment to his family and community, and his hearty laugh!

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Christina L. Claxton and her husband, Daniel, of Lake City, Pa. , Leah S. Murphy and her husband Mark of Fairview, Pa. , and one son, Jason H. Snyder and his wife Kristy (Benedetti) of Leechburg, Pa.

; his six beloved grandchildren, Robert, William and Thomas Claxton, Nathan and Parker Murphy and Katherine Mae Snyder. He is also survived by his sister, Nola (Snyder) Chipman and her husband, Searcy of Orlando, Fla, nieces and nephews and many good friends and co-workers. Friends may call Sunday, May 20, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg, Pa.

There will be a memorial service on Monday, May 21, at 11 a.m. at Cross Roads Community Presbyterian Church with his dear friend, the Rev. Gary Lyon officiating. Private burial with the family will take place at Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, French Creek Council 1815 Robison Road, Erie Pa. 16509 and Cross Roads Community Presbyterian Church, 271 Main Street, Leechburg, Pa. 15656.
