Richard James Walsh, 71, passed away July 7th at Baystate Medical Center. Richard was born January 31, 1947 in Springfield to the late Richard J. and Margaret (O’Brien) Walsh. He was a lifelong resident of Agawam and was a graduate of Agawam High School.

He worked at the U.S. Postal Service in Springfield as a mail handler for over 30 years before he retired. He was an avid bird watcher, loved classic rock and time with family and friends. He enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Blue Sox games.

He was a proud rescuer of his adopted greyhounds. Richard is survived by his beloved wife Irene (Wilk) Walsh of 32 years, his children Angela Tassinari of East Longmeadow, Daniel and Stephen Walsh of Feeding Hills, and his caring sister Mary Thetreault and her husband Frank of East Longmeadow. He was the cherished grandfather to Jacob Tassinari.

He will be dearly missed by his furry friends Jeckle and Chips. He was predeceased by his sister Marguerite Matroni. Calling hours for Richard will be Sunday, July 15th from 2:00PM – 4:00PM at TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street in West Springfield.

A burial will follow with full military honors Monday at 3PM at Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street in Agawam.
