Richard Lee Galenes, 71, of Charleston, husband of Viola Mattie Martin Reeves Galenes passed away on Friday May 11, 2018. Service and burial will be private. Richard was born on Saturday August 31, 1946, in Columbus OH, a son of Harry Galenes and Louelua Hoops Galenes.

Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam Conflict. Richard had a passion for knowledge, both in pursuit of it and sharing it. Richard was also a professor of Sociology.

Richard is survived by his wife, Viola Galenes of Charleston; Grandchildren, Breanne Cannon Burke and Justin Reeves Burke; great granddaughter Kaylie Marie Hyder; brother, Alex Galenes of Escondido, CA.
