Richard and Rose continued dating, became engaged, and were married on May 12, 1956 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Detroit. Richard then was employed at Wolverine Packing Company in Detroit’s Eastern Market.

Pinconning was already famous for its cheese, Richard made it just as famous for the PizzaBread. He retired from the Pinconning Cheese Store in 1987 and lived a modest, semi-retired lifestyle for many years.

Never one to totally retire, he and Rose were volunteer drivers for patients who needed to be taken to chemotherapy appointments as well as working in the St. Vincent dePaul Church’s Food Pantry for Faith. Richard leaves behind 4 children: Richard G. of Bay City; Ronald M. of San Francisco; Rochelle Beechum of Pinconning; Robert E. of Bay City. 4 grandchildren: Rebecca R. Beechum, Thomas J. Beechum, and AnnMarie J. Beechum of Pinconning, and Brady E. Mastroianni of Freeland.

One great-grandchild: Brayden T. Bricker of Pinconning. Richard loved all sports and especially followed the Tigers, Lions, and Red Wings — he idolized Gordie Howe. But his favorite sport was boxing.

He boxed while he was in the Navy. Family requests in lieu of flower donations may be made to the St. Vincent dePaul Society in Bay City. Visitation is October 26 from 1pm – 8pm at the Rivertown Funeral Home, 209 South Huron, Kawkawlin, Michigan.

There will also be a visitation at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 2956 E North Union Rd (at 2 Mile Rd. ), Bay City, Michigan at 10am on October 27 where a funeral mass will then follow at 11am. Richard will be buried at Elm Lawn Cemetery, 300 Ridge Road in Bay City.
