On Wednesday March 6, 2019 Richard Wayne Neff, surrounded by loving family, lost his battle against cancer. Richard was born in Goshen, Indiana on April 27, 1948 to parents, Bobby Gene Neff and Mary (Shelton) Hernandez. Richard was 70 years old.

Richard was a proud United States Marine and served his country from 1965-1969. During this time, he was deployed for two tours in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart. After moving to Texas, Richard worked in construction before beginning a long career with the Lewisville Fire Department.

Richard served 20 years before retiring from the department. Richard became actively involved with his local VFW post #3894 and participated in many cookoffs, BBQs and parades. He was elected to Post Commander position for three years and the VFW District Commander position for one year.

Richard was always helping others and was known to many as the “guy who could fix anything”. Richard was always good for advice and a good laugh. His sense of humor and many stories will be missed.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Mary (Shelton) Hernandez, his father, Bobby Gene Neff, and his brother, Fred Neff. Richard is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 30 years, Susan Neff. Siblings included Ed Neff of South Bend, In; David Neff (Honey Lou) of Warsaw, In; and Jack Neff (Gloria) of Goshen, In.

Step-brother Ralph Hernandez of Mexico; Step-brother Jimmy Hernandez (Valentina) of McKinney, Tx; Step-sister Melinda Williams (Michael) of Kaufman, Tx; Step-sister Irene Hammond (George) of Dallas Tx, and Half-sister Robin Carmichael of South Bend, Ind. Also surviving are his children: Rick Neff (Paula) of Pecan Hill, Tx; Danny Neff (Gina) of Waxahachie, Tx; and Patti Neff of Denton, Tx. Step-son Scott Kirscht (Cindy) of Grapevine, Tx; Step-son Michael Kirscht (Melissa) of Hurst, Tx; Step-son David Kirscht of Austin, Tx; and Step-son Danny Kirscht of Waxahachie, Tx.

Along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Internment service will be held at the DFW National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to fundraising.
