Richard Lee Cannon, 70, went to his heavenly home on October 27, 2018 after battling gallbladder cancer. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. Richard was born June 25th, 1948 to the late Gerald and Mary Cannon and was raised on a farm near Canistota, SD.

He was the eldest of two brothers, Jim and Roger Cannon. He married Roberta Jean Yates from Mobridge, SD on May 27th, 1973. After settling in Eagle River, AK, Richard helped raise his two daughters with love, patience and compassion.

Richard graduated from South Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences on May 31st, 1970 then pursued his dream to move to the last frontier where he earned a Master of Science in Biological Oceanography from University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1981. He worked as fisheries biologist for AK Department Fish and Game for 25 years; retired in 2000, then held a position with US Fish and Wildlife Alaska for 11 years. As of late, he was enjoying retirement by staying active in karate, judo, fishing, boating and spending time with his family.

Richard is survived by his wife, Roberta Cannon; his eldest daughter and son-in-law Rebecca and Jeremy Robinson; his youngest daughter and son-in-law Rochelle and Caleb Wolfram; grandchildren Makayla, Levi and Jacob Robinson. He is preceded in death by his son Nathan John Cannon, his parents, Gerald and Mary Cannon and father-in-law Robert Yates. Richard’s Celebration of Life will be held at Community Covenant Church at 1:00pm on Saturday November 3rd, 2018, with a reception following the service.
