Daren Micheal Traxinger, son of Paul and Sandra Traxinger, born September 17, 1967 in Soldotna Alaska, died November 23, 2018 in his home in Cordova, Alaska. He was 51 years old. A memorial will be held December 15, 2018 at the Kenai Elks Club at 1 pm.

A third generation Alaska commercial fisherman, his life was on the water. At four years old, he was operating a skiff and commercial fishing with his parents on the Cook Inlet. He was 17 when he went to a drift gill net boat of his own in the Prince William Sound, the Copper Flats and the gulf of Alaska.

Fishing was his business and passion. A hardworking, dedicated man, he carved out an off-grid home for his family overlooking Hartney Bay where he could see and hear the boats leaving for the fishing grounds. They didn’t get far ahead of him when he heard them leaving.

Whatever he did, it was done with intensity and attention to detail that was beyond what anyone else would do. He was a loving husband and father, his family was of primary importance to him. He felt they needed a bigger perspective of the world and took them sailing the south pacific for three years.

Robin, his wife of 27 years, son Rhett and daughter Dharma have many fond memories. They swam at the equator and explored many island cultures. They made the most of their time together and could swap sea stories with the best of them.

Daren always had a future goal, a plan in the back of his mind for a new adventure that he could throw himself into and conquer. He didn’t have time to sit around and let the world go by. He shall be missed by his family and many, many friends.

He has left a piece of his heart with everyone he left behind.
