Harry Saunders, 73, of Wasilla, Alaska, born January 27, 1945 in Easton, Maryland, passed away November 17, 2018 at home of natural causes. Preceded in death by his parent Harry M. Saunders, Sr and Frances Baynard Saunders; sisters Anna Mae Briggs and Margaret (Peggy) Shores; and grandson Robert Saunders, Jr. Harry is survived by his wife Carol Ann Saunders of Wasilla, Alaska; sister Sara Bridges of Marion, Kentucky; daughters Donna Reynolds of Havre de Grace, Maryland, Susan Pemberton of Manchester, Maryland, Laura Watts of Lake in the Hills, Illinois, and Holiday Rigdon of Enterprise, Alabama; and son Robert Saunders Sr of Baltimore, Maryland. Grandchildren Tiffany Martinez, Jake Benz, Brady Orem, Aurora Rigdon, Madelynn Rigdon, and Genevieve Rigdon.

Many nephews, nieces, and great-grandchildren. Harry was a Vietnam Veteran who retired from the U.S. Army in 1988 after serving 21 years including tours in Vietnam, stations in Germany and Korea and many other posts. He received the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and numerous other military medals and awards.

He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9365, American Legion, AmVets, and a charter member of Disabled Vietnam Veterans of Alaska. Harry retired from service and remained in Alaska after falling in love with the casual lifestyle and wilderness of the state. He retired from the State of Alaska, McLaughlin Youth Center in 2005.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, snow machining, and four-wheeling adventures. An active member in the VFW, Harry’s past-times included playing cards, bowling, and the camaraderie of his friends who became family. Services will be held at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9365; 301 East Lake View Ave, Wasilla, Alaska on November 25, 2018 at 2:00 pm.
