Marilou Chapman passed away at her Rabbit Creek home December 18, 2018. She had endured a three-year battle with kidney cancer. Family and friends supported her all the way through those difficult times.

Marilou was born in Tacoma, Washington on July 29, 1948. She grew up in Tacoma and graduated from Stadium High School in 1966. In 1980, Marilou traveled to Alaska with her two sons, Paul and Grant.

She started her new life in Anchorage and supported herself and the boys by providing quality daycare from her home. Marilou soon become known for her skills with young children and her loving manner with everyone she would meet (young or old). She met her husband Bob through a “Sunday Singles” ad in the Anchorage newspaper.

Bob and Marilou spent over 29 1/2 years together enjoying many trips in vintage Volvos. Later she developed a preference for Mercedes cars especially her 500SL convertible. She was proud of her family and wasn’t afraid to let anybody know who would listen.

Marilou loved her job as a pre-school teacher at a Montessori School on O’Malley Road. Parents and grandparents of the students would often praise her ability to lead their kids in song and performances such as the annual Christmas program and the “Freedom Day March” at the Town Square. Marilou taught the kids about our nations’ flag and what it represents.

She used common sense and “old school” methods. Marilou loved Alaska, especially her home on the hillside with views of the Cook Inlet, Sleeping Lady, Chugach, and Alaska ranges. She and Bob loved their dogs and always had at least two at any given time.

When asked recently what she would miss most, the answer was “watching the grandchildren grow up”. She is survived by her husband, Bob; her sons, Paul (Monica); Grant (Christine); Kenneth (Teryl); daughter, Robyn; eight beautiful grandchildren, Chelsea, Acasia, Mason, Desiree, Julian, Catalina, and Rally; mother, Joan Bruce; sister, Joanne Hall and many close friends and family. A service will be held for Marilou on Saturday, December 29 at 12 Noon at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 2901 Huffman Rd, Anchorage.
