Poland-A memorial service for Ritchie H. Jones will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Poland Presbyterian Church, 2 Poland Manor in Poland. Friends may greet the family from 2-2:45 p.m., prior to the service. Ritchie Harper Jones was born February 15, 1926, at her parents’ home near Dresden, Ohio, to Joseph Willis and Martha Watt Harper.

She was a graduate of Frazeysburg High School, and she received her BS in Nursing from Ohio State University in 1948. Ritchie married Robert W. Jones in 1948 and lived in the Youngstown area all of her married life. Her nursing career included working at Youngstown Hospitals and Boardman Schools and volunteering at the American Red Cross.

Mrs. Jones was a member of Poland Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, Deacon and Elder. The members of the Friendship Circle were her dear friends. She enjoyed her membership in the Trailwood Gardeners, who annually plant flowers at the Poland Library.

She also volunteered at Meals on Wheels from the time it started in the 1980s, and she was co-leader of her daughter Marti’s Girl Scout Troop. Ritchie enjoyed being active in community activities. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Robert W. Jones, her parents, her siblings, Joseph Harper, William Harper, and Marcelene Cooper, and her foster brother John Flynn.

She is survived by her children, Sue Jones of Wheaton, Illinois, Cal (Val) Jones of North Lima, Ohio, and Martha (the late George) Ambrose of Twin Falls, Idaho. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christopher Jones, Laura Chismar, and Joseph Jones, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous dear nieces and nephews. Although Mrs. Jones loved flowers, she and the family would appreciate memorial tributes take the form of donations in her memory to either Poland Presbyterian Church, 2 Poland Manor, Poland, OH 44514 or The Michael J.
