Obituary for Robert Addleman WICHITA, KS–Robert Lee “Bob” Addleman, 81, of Wichita, KS, passed away on September 17, 2018, at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, NE, following a hard-fought battle with cancer. Bob was born on August 2, 1937, in Springfield, NE, to Eli and Daisy (Stuecklin) Addleman. He attended elementary school in the Havelock area of Lincoln, NE, graduating from Lincoln Northeast High School.
Following graduation, Bob served in the United States Army from 1955-1958. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, Bob purchased a motorcycle and spent a year touring the United States before going to work at Nebraska Sales Book in Lincoln, NE. In 1964, Bob moved to Wichita, KS, where he was employed at Service Business Forms and Western Lithographs.
In 1988, he began working for McKormick/Armstrong, retiring in 1999. In his retirement years, he enjoyed helping friends in their various businesses. Anyone who knew Bob would describe him as quite a character, making friends wherever he went with his vibrant, charismatic personality, quick wit, and flirtatious style.
He was unmistakable with his shock of white hair and beard, and piercing blue eyes, which twinkled when he shared his multitude of stories with family and friends that often included tales of his ornery side. Bob was a loyal friend and would do anything for anybody in need. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on old cars, and frequently attended estate sales to find the best bargains.
He also loved home-cooked meals, pie alamode, and playing the lottery. Around the age of 21, Bob came to the Fullerton area to hunt and ended up befriending the Clifford and Darlene McCray family, beginning a 60-year friendship where he became a much-loved member of their family. In fact, he was fondly referred to as “Uncle Bob” by the younger generations and enjoyed spoiling them with bags of their favorite candy when he came to visit.
He never missed a holiday or important family event and even spent his vacations helping with harvest, tagging along to Husker Harvest Days, and traveling with the McCrays on their family vacations. Those left to cherish his memory include Darlene McCray, Mike and MaDonna McCray, and Eileen and Paul Stanczyk, all of Fullerton; Kathy McCray of Doniphan; Jackie and Keith Cornelius and Diane McCray, all of Shelton; “nieces and nephews”, Jessica (Jarod) Bridger, Sarah (David) Ciancio, Ashley (Jarrod) Ridder, Rebecca (Doug) Reardon, Andrea (Jake) Jazwick, Miranda (Matt) Jazwick, Jonathan Stanczyk, Tara Marco, Adam (Roxann) Marco, Jana (Zach) Kramer, Brooke Marco, Michael Connor McCray, Trevor Cornelius, Michael Cornelius, Kaden Cornelius, as well as 20 “great nieces and nephews”. Bob will also be missed by his dear friends Gale and JoAnne Wenzel, Ray and Eleanor Hall, and numerous others in Wichita, KS.
To honor Bob’s wishes, cremation will take place and his ashes will be scattered on the McCray Family Farm and his favorite fishing hole. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Robert Addleman please visit our Sympathy Store.
