Robert Dowd “PeeWee” Baker, 64, of Ayden, passed away on December 4, 2018 at his home. “PeeWee” was born on May 11, 1954 in Pitt County, NC to Robert and Ruby Howell Baker. He was preceded in death by his biological parents; his guardians, Henry and Lib Baker; two brothers, James “Pete” Howell and Mike Baker and two nieces, Tracey Baker and Renee Howell.

After completing high school, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy. He proudly served his country for 24 years and retired as a Chief Petty Officer Yoman in 1997. After his honorable discharge and retirement, he attended college and earned his Associates Degree.

He married the love of his life and together they raised three children. They traveled the country with the Military and made sure they became involved with the Naval Base Church where they were stationed. He was also active with youth sports programs and would often volunteer his time coaching and supporting the children.

He loved baseball, was a huge ECU fan and always had a kind word to share with others. He and his wife often enjoyed a spontaneous Saturday afternoon drive through the country, with nothing on their agenda, except to have a good time. His fondest and most cherished memories were those spent with family.

PeeWee is survived by his loving wife, of 44 years, Mary Kay “Kay” Baker, of the home; two sons, Bobby Baker and wife, Holly, of Durham and Steven Baker and wife, Suzanne, of the home; a daughter, Jessica Baker and husband, Brandon, of Ayden; one brother, Henry “Snake” Baker and two sisters, Theresa “Baby” Edwards, of Washington and Shelia Langley, of Calico.
