Grimesland Van Calvin James, 96, passed away at his home on Friday, November 9, 2018 with his family by his side. He was born in Martin County and spent most of his life in Pitt County. Mr. James was a WWII Navy Veteran and life long member of the VFW and American Legion.

He was the owner and operator for Calvin James Welding and Bulldozer Service. Calvin is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Henry James; mother,Myrtle Briley James; wife, Martha Louise Smith James; daughter, Carolyn Ann James Stevey; son, Richard Earl James; one granddaughter, one grandson, two sisters and three brother. Calvin is survived by a son, Michael Van James of Grimesland; a daughter, Janet Lee James Jones and son-in-law Bobby Earl Jones of Grimesland; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

He is also survived by a sister Evelyn Dickerson of Washington and brother Bobby James of Ayden. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, 2:00pm at Farmer Funeral Service-Chapel officiated by Rev. Mike Meshaw.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Estates in Grifton. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 12, 2018, 6-8 pm at Farmer Funeral Service in Ayden. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made in Calvins Memory to Vidant Childrens Hospital in Greenville, NC To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Van Calvin James please visit our Sympathy Store.
