Robert E. Claffey, age 77, long-time resident of South Bend, IN, passed away Friday, April 27, 2018 at Dujarie House at Holy Cross Village. Bob was a graduate of St. Joseph High School, earned his Bachelor and Master Degrees from Western Michigan University, and briefly taught high school. He then worked for Hover Trucking and retired from ABF Freight operations after many years of service.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Mae (Knoblock) Claffey, and his sister, Marilyn Claffey. He is missed by his surviving family and friends including sister, Constance (Joseph) Hipskind of Grand Rapids, MI; brother, Thomas (Ruth) Claffey of Ludington, MI; many nieces and nephews; and close local friends, Larry Catanzarite and Martha Lustik. Bob enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, Notre Dame football, as well as time spent with his family and friends.

He was famous for his numerous Christmas cookies! Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3:00pm on Monday, April 30, 2018, at St. Joseph Chapel, Holy Cross College, 54515 S.R. 933 North, Notre Dame, IN. Friends may gather with the family from 2:30pm until the service begins.

Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, IN. Palmer Funeral Home–Hickey Chapel is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions in honor of Robert may be made to Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN, 46545; Holy Cross Foundation, Dujarie House, P.O. Box 303, Notre Dame, IN 46556; or a charity that reminds you of Bob.
