Robert E. Hyde On May 14, 2018 at 7:15 a.m., in UPMC McCandless Hospital, McCandless, Pa. , a beautiful heart quit beating, a courageous battle was won, free at last of a body that had been disabled for the past 10 years by long-term effects of exposure to Agent Orange during his Vietnam service. Robert Ernest Hyde “Bob” was born in Coudersport, Pa.

, on June 16, 1943, to Kenneth B. and Orva M. (Knight) Hyde. He was married to his wife of 52 years, Barbara Weeks, on April 2, 1966 in Coudersport. Bob was a disabled Vietnam vet who served two tours in Vietnam.

He was a Captain in the Field Artillery who served as an electronic surveillance expert. On leaving the service in 1972, he returned to college and earned a degree in Mathematics. At college, he met and began a life-long love affair with computers and their programming.

He was a self-employed programmer who specialized in rescuing failed projects. Bob was one of the fortunate few who was paid well for doing what he would have done for free if no one would pay him. After retirement, he continued his love affair with programming by developing websites.

Bob was a gun enthusiast and collector with a special fondness for Mausers. He did his own stock work and had the privilege of coaching his grandson as he restocked his first rifle. Bob leaves a big hole in the lives of his wife, Barbara; his two children, Kenneth Hyde end Lisa (Hyde) Kunkel, as well as a son-in-law, Tom, and two grandsons, Rob and Mark Kunkel.

He was predeceased by his parents, and his two sisters, Vera June Stonemetz and infant Jean Lucille. The family will greet friends on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Rehoboth Lutheran Church, 2800 Conway Wallrose Road, Economy Boro, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. His pastor, Rev. Susan Irons, will officiate.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the JOHN SYKA FUNERAL HOME INC. , 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge.
