Obituary for Robert J. VanSkiver Robert Joseph “Bob” VanSkiver, 87, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:14 a.m., Tuesday October, 16, 2018 at his residence. He was born March 6, 1931, in Wapakoneta, the son of Harry & Helen (Blume) VanSkiver, who preceded him in death. On June 10, 1951 he married Nancy Jane Brading, who survives.
Other survivors include, 3 daughters, Debra (Bob) Shenk, Robin (Mike) Klock, Julie (Mark) Sislowski, 11 grandchildren, Ryan Shenk, Courtney Shenk, Braden Shenk, Christopher (Heather) Monday, Nolan Klock, Makenzie Klock, Luke Sislowski, Isaak Sislowski, Kaleb Sislowski, Rebekah Sislowski, Mikaela Sislowski, 3 great grandchildren, Mabel, Pascal, & Sabine Monday, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-laws, Becky Kohlrieser, Judy (Wayne) Kentner, Don Richardson, He was preceded in death by; 2 sisters, Mary (Bud) Zeits and Jeanne (Dutch) Shuster; mother and father-in-law, Carl (Pauline) Brading; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dick Kohlrieser, Shirley Richardson, and Sally (Roger) Moellenkamp. Bob and Nancy owned and operated Bob’s Market at the corner of Pearl and Buchanan for over 30 years after purchasing what was Wahrer’s Market in 1962. Over the years they became well known for their potato salad and their catering.
Bob was a very active member of the First English Lutheran Church in Wapakoneta. He was a member of the former Wapakoneta Elks Lodge BPOE #1170, Wapakoneta Country Club, Greenlawn Cemetery Board of Directors, and a 1949 graduate of the Blume High School. Bob, along with his wife Nancy, were judges of the Minster Octoberfest parade for 25 years.
He enjoyed bowling, golfing, reading, playing cards with family and friends. He also loved attending Wapakoneta football games, and was a great handyman. We wish to thank the sweet ladies that took care of dad through the good times as well as the bad, with patience, understanding and love.
We thank Penny Welch, Kerry Rotroff, Linda McCune, Deb Armentrout, Christine Briggs, Shirley Place, Roberta Pass, Sandy Koch, and Connie Briggs. We also would like to thank Whitney Wycuff of CHP Home Care and Hospice for her love and caring assistance for dad on his journey home. Thank you to Pastor Neil and Pastor Steve and thank you to all for your visits, cards, thoughts and prayers.
Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 21, 2018, at the Eley Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta.
The family will receive friends from 1-4 p.m., Sun. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Auglaize County Humane Society or the First English Lutheran Church.
