Robert’s Obituary Robert L. Timmons Long time Bay County resident and business owner Robert L. Timmons passed away on February 6th after a short illness. Bob was born on January 12, 1929 in Rock Hill South Carolina to Oscar and Cleo Timmons. After graduating high school he attended a semester of college at Clemson University.

He married his bride of 68 years, Evelyn, on December 24th 1950. Robert enlisted in the Naval Reserve and served to maintain and operate shore battery guns during World War II at a time when German U-boats were operating in the waters off our East Coast. He left the Naval Reserve and enlisted in newly formed U.S. Airforce.

While in the Air Force Sgt. Timmons severed in different parts of the world and different locals in the United States. Some of the high points were: He joined the Airforce in 1950 and while stationed at Kirkland AFB, New Mexico, was on remote assignment in the South Pacific (Eniwetok and Bikini Atolls) and Nevada where he participated in 72 Nuclear tests as a part of the air sampling and data recording team.

From there he was assigned to design and fabrication. In that capacity he spent time in Saudi Arabia in the 1960s. While there he played base in a unit band.

He was also part of the team that designed the trailer that the first astronauts to return from the moon were isolated in. MSgts Timmons final tour was on the staff of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon in Washington DC from 1968 – 1970 as an illustrator. He had a passion for Hotrod cars, especially 1934 Ford coupes, Porsche 911s, old airplanes and art.

He was a very accomplished artist from a young age and was constantly drawing and painting. But his one lifelong passion was his shop, Artgraphics Signs which he opened in 1970 from a spare room in his home and along with his Wife and two Sons created a successful billboard and Real estate sign business. Eventually Art Graphic Signs moved to Harrison Ave.

, where it remains today. He loved his work and looked forward to working each day. Mr. Timmons spent several days a week at the shop until just a few months before he passed.

He is survived by Evelyn Timmons, his wife of 68 years, sons Robert L. Timmons, Jr. and his wife Diana, Keith Timmons and wife Anita, daughter Kimbally Guilford and husband Stuart along with grand children Chris, Sean, Joshua and Asher. Robert Timmons was 90 years old.
