Obituary for Robert S. Wilson Robert S. Wilson, 80, of Doylestown, died Sunday, April 15, 2018 following a period of declining health at Akron City Hospital. He was born September 25, 1937 in Harrisburg, Ohio to the late Millard “Pat” and Edith (Canter) Wilson and lived most of his life in Doylestown. Following graduation from Norwayne High School, Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He was a Staff Sergeant in the 6th Howitzer Battalion (B) Battery and 18th field artillery – 3rd division in Germany. He has been happily married to Lois (Cross) Wilson for 53 years, she survives. Bob was employed by the former Packaging Corporation of America for 11 years and retired from Babcock and Wilcox in Barberton following 29 years of employment.
After retirement he worked for Maibach Ford driving the parts truck. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren are his pride and joy and genuinely loved spending time with them and especially enjoyed when the family gathered together.
He also liked watching western movies, gardening and being outdoors. Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters, Leia (Jerry) Maddox of Barboursville, West Virginia and Lynlee (Michael) Mattingly of Doylestown; grandchildren, Madison and Luke; sister, Jean Davis of Brinkhaven, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Sam Hilty of Rittman and David (Tammy) Cross of Millersburg; and sisters-in-law, Karen Wilson of Wadsworth and Mitzi Kelley of Rittman. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roy Wilson; sister, Judy Hilty; and brother-in-law, Jack Davis.
Services will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Auble-Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Dr., Rittman with Pastor Rick Glass officiating. Burial will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 23 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
