Robert Simon Burney Jr., 80, of Ayden passed away on September 29, 2018. He was born in Pitt Co. on July 9, 1938 to Robert Simon Sr. “Simon” and Louise Pittman Burney. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and one son Douglas Stephen Burney.

He graduated from Ayden High School. After graduating, he entered and served three years in the US Navy. “Bob” spent his career working for the U.S Postal Service and retired after 33 years of dedicated service.

He was an avid reader and was always on the hunt for a new and challenging book to dive into and more recently had enjoyed researching his family genealogy. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Joyce, of the home; his daughter, Deborah Hennessey and husband, Eric, of VA; one sister, Betty Lou Rouse; a brother, John Burney and three very special grandchildren, Melissa, Sean and Stephen Hennessey. A Graveside Inurnment Service will held on Saturday October 27, 2018 at 2:00pm in the Ayden Cemetery.
