Robert Young Lawrence peacefully left this world on the morning of March 10, 2019, to join his family in Heaven as the last of his family to arrive. He was born April 2, 1931 to parents Rosassa (Zeb) Young and Minnie Hensley Lawrence of Spencer, Virginia. He was preceded to his new home by his sister, Mae Lawrence Critz (Frank); brothers, James Coleman Lawrence, Sr. (Frances), baby Jack Lawrence, Thomas Mason Lawrence (Edna), and Wayne Lee Lawrence (Dora); son, Raymond Young Lawrence; and former wife, Thelma R. Roberson.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marie W. Lawrence; two sons, Douglas Paul Lawrence (Shirley), and John Thomas Wade (Tammi); and daughter, Robin Ann Estep. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Bobby served his country during the Korean War in the Air Force while he was living in Richmond, Virginia.

His unit was called to service and he was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. After his military service, he moved his family back to Spencer and soon established his own business, Lawrence Auto Repair, which has remained open at its current location in Martinsville since 1960. Bobby was a long-time member of the Antique Automobile Club of America (A.A.C.A.

). He was also a charter member of the Martinsville-Danville Region of the A.A.C.A.

He and his wife, Marie, were among the founders of Friendly Christian Church of which they were members. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Perpetual Cemetery Fund of Friendly Christian Church, 732 Friendly Christian Road, Martinsville, Virginia. The Funeral will be on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Friendly Christian Church with Minister Don Forester officiating.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 13, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Church. Burial will follow the Funeral Service at Friendly Christian Church Cemetery. Wright Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family.
