Roger Cortez Resh, 79, of Grantsville, MD, died Sunday, May 12, 2019, at Garrett Regional Medical Center, Oakland, MD. Born November 21, 1939, in Grantsville, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ruthella (Swauger) Resh. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy E. (Meyers) Resh; two sisters, Phyllis Buckel and Wilma Resh and one brother, Buford Resh and one niece.

A U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of Grantsville Post 214, American Legion and Walker-Harris Post 8826,V.F.W., Salisbury, PA. Roger was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Jennings and the Frostburg Moose Lodge. He owned and operated Resh’ Sportsman’s Bar from 1971 until 1982.

He then became owner of Grantsville Liquors, which he still owned today. Over the span of these years, Roger made some special friendships that he cherished to this day. He especially enjoyed the days of playing/managing softball with fellow teammates for Delta Mining.

He is survived by a daughter, Carol Lawson, Grantsville; a grandson, Connor Lawson, who was his pride and joy. Roger enjoyed teaching Connor about hunting and watching him play sports. He is also survived by a sister, Rheta Ross, Tavares, FL; four nieces and one nephew.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Tuesday from 1-3 pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel at 3 pm with the Rev. Stephen Yelovich officiating.

Interment will be in Grantsville Cemetery, where Grantsville Post 214, American Legion will accord military graveside rites. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.
