Roger Lee Smith, age 69, of Marion, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, February 14, 2019. Roger was born in Mitchell County on March 4, 1949, a son of the late Hubert Smith and Verlie Stamey Smith. He served his country faithfully in the U. S. Army and following that he worked at various businesses, ultimately retired from Elmore Pisgah Cotton Mill in Spindale where he served as a Supervisor.

Roger was a hard-working man who provided well for his family but in his free time he loved nothing better than to be in the woods fishing or hunting. His family meant everything to him and he loved his wife, son and four granddaughters very much. Roger faithfully read his Bible every night.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 45 years, Barbara Godfrey Smith; his son, Derek Neal Smith and wife Arley; a brother, Paul Douglas Smith; a sister, Patricia Bundy; and his loving granddaughters, Brooklyn, Makenzie, Rebekah, and Leann. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Eve Mae Stamey officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Biddix Cemetery.
