Obituary for Roger Stuart Douglas Roger Stuart Douglass passed away on March 16th, 2018 at his home in Fort Dodge, IA at the age of 74. He was born in Emmetsburg, IA on June 9th, 1943 to his proud parents Bernell C. Douglass and Lillian Kathleen King. Although he was born into a small town in the middle of America, he would go on to explore the world after joining the Navy at age 17.

He became a radar tech, and his service took him to the far reaches of the globe from a Christmas expedition to the South Pole aboard the Navy Icebreaker USS Staten Island, to his operations on a reconnaissance mission far to the North in the Bering Sea. His life after the military became even more exciting when he married Mary Elizabeth Kinnetz. As a child, Mary would see a rascally little boy poking his tongue out at her from the backseat of the car parked next to hers at the grocery store.

Little did she know that she and that mischievous young man would share a union that would span more than 50 years. As an adult, Roger remained the same jokester that he was as a young boy. He loved nothing more than to sit and laugh while he made those around him descend into fits of giggles that would leave tears streaming down their faces.

Roger was a loving father who enjoyed taking his kids hunting and fishing or for long rides on his motorcycle or three-wheeler. Roger never missed a day of work, but when it was time to unwind, he could often be found with a guitar on his knee and a song in his heart. He will always be remembered for his kind heart, playful spirit and love of the Lord.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife, their four children: Troy Douglass (Venina), Tim Douglass (Brittany), Crystal Newburn (Ryan) and Lacey Simmons (Aaron), his brothers Larry Douglass and Tom Douglass, his sisters Shelley Jo Clemenson and Susan Rusk, along with thirteen grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren with a seventh on the way. Roger’s family takes comfort in his relationship with Jesus, his Lord and Savior, and in their grief, they rejoice in the comfort that they will see him again in Paradise.
