Rom J. “Joe” Huskins, age 57, of Candler, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville. A native of Baltimore, MD, he was born on February 5, 1962 to Rom B. Huskins of Blount, TN and Carol Chesser of Harford County, MD. A bricklayer by trade, in his free time he loved to follow sports of all kinds and it could be said that he was truly a sports encyclopedia.

Football and Baseball were his favorite sports and so it naturally followed that he enthusiastically pulled for the Ravens and the Orioles. He also loved fast trucks and was a motorcycle enthusiast. Joe was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church in Candler.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bessie and Rom Huskins, and his maternal grandparents, Doris and Pete McDaniel, and a nephew, Jeffrey Anders. He leaves behind, in addition to his parents, a son, Corey Huskins of Baltimore, MD; two brothers, Grady Huskins of Blount, TN and Gregory Anderson of Harford County, MD; two sisters, Diane Anderson and Kimberly Anders, both of Harford County, MD; two grandsons; an aunt, Gail Mabe of Lancaster, MD; his former step-father, Leon Anderson of Harford County, MD; a special friend, Jerome Gaddy and various nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion with Rev.

Allen Rash officiating. Following the service his cremated remains will be inurned in McDowell Memorial Park with his paternal grandparents. Memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice McDowell at 575 Airport Road, Marion, NC 28752.
