Ronald DeYoung, 84 , of Indian River entered the gates of Heaven on November 18, 2018 Ronald was born on January 26, 1934 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Casper DeYoung and Grace Piebenga. He grew up in Grand Rapids and attended school at Godwin Heights in Grand Rapids. On March15, 1956 he married Barbara Kunst in Grand Rapids.

Ronald enjoyed landscaping, gardening, fishing, working, and chores on the family farm. He owned and operated Great Day Foods supermarkets in Grand Rapids for 45 years. In addition he also served as the Chairman of the Board for both Spartan Stores and Country Fresh Dairy for many years.

He was a past member of the Westview Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids and attended Indian River United Methodist Church when they moved to Indian River in 1999. Ronald is survived by his children Linda (Brian) Mulder, Ronald (Sherri) DeYoung Jr., and Robert (AnnaMaria) DeYoung, grandchildren Kaleigh (Thomas) Herin, Joshua (Kelsey) DeYoung, Britney DeYoung, Katie DeYoung, Nicole DeYoung, Stacy Mulder, and Tom Mulder, great-grandchild Kade Herin, siblings Marvin (Rose) DeYoung, Marguerite Ettema, Arlene VanderWoude, and Alvin (Marie) DeYoung. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his mother, father, and stepfather Henry Weemhoff, and three brothers-in-law John VanderWoude , Lewis Schepers and Bernard Ettema.

Services for Ronald will be held at the Alanson Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, December 1, 2018. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am with a memorial service at noon followed by a luncheon. Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in memory of Ronald should consider the Westside Christian School in Grand Rapids, McLaren Hospice of the Straits, or Harbor Light Christian School.
